Melaphants

Commissioned by Arts Ekta for Belfast Mela 2022

These stilt walker costumes were inspired by the rich history of elephants as celebrated in Indian culture. They combine elements of puppetry and sculpture, and are brought to life by the talented performers Diane & Louise.

In March 2024 they helped welcome Little Amal to Belfast. And later that summer they underwent maintenance & refurbishment where more colours and fine details were added. Meeting a huge puppet celebrity and a wee glow-up, 2024 was quite the year for Eleanor and Fantasia.
